Q&A Session

Got questions? We've got answers. Your guide to our society.

What is the mission of Lady Ferns?

Our mission is to empower women to lead from within their communities through sisterhood, service, and leadership; fostering connection, inspiring collective action, and advancing transformative solutions that strengthen neighborhoods and improve lives for generations to come.

How can I become a member?

Membership is open to women who are committed to our values of fellowship, empowerment, resilience, nurturing, and service. Please visit our "Contact Us" page to inquire about requirements and the application process.

What kind of events do you host?

We plan to host a variety of events including workshops, community service projects, social gatherings, and personal development seminars designed to engage and benefit our members, the wider community and our youth. Together we can make a positive difference!

Are there opportunities for leadership?

Absolutely! We are currently looking for women interested in leading this organization into it's next chapter. If you are truly invested in helping African American youth succeed, improving communities of color, and building a network of Black women who build each other up, we want you on our team!

What is the difference between a sorority and a society?

Traditionally, sororities are sisterhood, service, and scholarship-focused Greek-letter organizations affiliated with four-year colleges and universities, serving women who are pursuing or have earned academic degrees.

There are non-traditional, non-collegiate sororities.

There are Academic and Professional Honor Societies that typically focus on high academic achievement and excellence in a particular field.

In contrast, we are a Civic Society that unites individuals from diverse backgrounds around shared values, common goals, and a commitment to personal growth, fellowship, leadership, and community impact. Although education and lifelong learning are valued, encouraged, and very important aspects of our culture, membership is ultimately based on a shared dedication to service, engagement, and making a positive difference in our communities.

Where are your chapters located?

Our "chapters" are called circles.

The Lady Ferns Society® plans to charter its Inaugural Circle in Spring 2027.

As part of our strategic growth initiative, we plan to establish Circles throughout the continental United States in the next 5 years.

Are you a 501(c)( 3) organization?

The Ferns Foundation Incorporated, Lady Ferns Society®, is a registered nonprofit corporation in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The decision to apply for federal tax-exempt status will be based on membership growth and organizational needs during our first year of operation.

Can you belong to a sorority or other women's group and still join this organization?

Yes. We welcome women who are active in sororities and other organizations. We ask that members maintain a healthy balance of commitments and dedicate the time necessary to be active, successful, and engaged in all of their affiliations.

Is there a cost to join?

Yes. To learn more about the organization and determine if it’s a good fit, we invite you to register for our virtual Coffee Chat event.
